After railway workers, doctors, airport security workers in Germany have decided to go on strike.
Security workers at Germany’s major airports will go on strike on Thursday after negotiations with airport authorities failed. This announcement was made on behalf of trade union Verdi. The union appealed to airport security workers to go on strike from Thursday morning.
Security staff at Germany’s biggest airports Frankfurt, Berlin and nine other airports will not work, the union said. These security personnel are responsible for checking passengers’ bags and looking after the search and security of passengers and flight personnel. Without them, the airport would become unusable. The union has demanded a pay hike for security personnel. Such a strike took place in March last year. This resulted in the closure of airports across Germany. Air traffic was disrupted.
A spokesperson for the Federal Association of Air Security Businesses (BDLS) said they have not yet received an official notice of the strike. He said that a regional government transport strike in Germany has been called for Friday. He criticized the strike the day before. He said last week GDL had called for a rail strike. Now it seems Verdi has called a strike by airport security staff in competition with them.
