UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received a phone call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation. The leaders explored ways to advance mutual interests under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the two nations.
The two heads of state reviewed the latest developments regarding the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, with a specific focus on its humanitarian implications. President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Sheikh Mohamed for the UAE’s consistent diplomatic commitment to facilitating prisoner exchanges between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
The UAE has played a pivotal role in these humanitarian efforts. Notably, the nation successfully brokered a 370-captive exchange and facilitated the release of 320 prisoners in separate operations during the Russia-Ukraine war.
Beyond the conflict in Ukraine, the leaders exchanged views on several regional and international issues of mutual interest. They underscored the importance of intensifying efforts to advance global peace, security, and stability to support the development of peoples worldwide.
The UAE continues to maintain a broad humanitarian focus. This includes its ongoing mission in Gaza, which has now reached 1,000 days of sustained support.
Recent diplomatic activity also saw the UAE and Syrian presidents, as well as the UAE and Lebanese presidents, discuss regional developments. Additionally, Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed met with the UK Foreign Secretary in London, while the UAE extended its Parent-friendly Label application deadline and opened nominations for the inaugural Year of Award.
