Hayden Panettiere, the acclaimed actor recognized for her early role in “Remember the Titans” and her breakout performance in the sci-fi series “Heroes,” has died at the age of 36. Her publicist, Kasey Kitchen, confirmed the news to, noting that an investigation into the circumstances of her passing is currently underway.
In a statement released through Kitchen, the actor’s father, Skip Panettiere, expressed the family’s grief: “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen. We ask for privacy as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss.”
Panettiere’s career spanned over three decades, featuring prominent roles in the “Scream” horror franchise and the television drama “Nashville.” Earlier this year, she released a memoir titled “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” in which she candidly discussed her childhood in the industry, her struggles with addiction, and her journey toward recovery. In a May interview with Gayle King, the Golden Globe-nominated actor reflected on the intensity of her upbringing, noting that her mother began taking her to auditions as an eight-month-old. By age five, she had already appeared in 50 commercials, a pace she described as relentless.
The actor also spoke openly about the pressures of fame and personal challenges. In October 2015, she sought treatment for postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter, Kaya, in December 2014. By 2018, Panettiere had granted full primary custody of her daughter to her former fiancé, Wladimir Klitschko. John Filippelli contributed to this report.
