Indian airports and airlines have issued travel advisories urging passengers on both domestic and international flights to arrive early at terminals. The warnings come as authorities implement heightened security measures across the country in preparation for India’s 80th Independence Day, which will be celebrated on Saturday, August 15, with national events led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Delhi Airport informed passengers via social media that security protocols have been strengthened, noting that screening processes may take longer than usual. The airport advised travelers to plan their journeys in advance to avoid last-minute complications. Similarly, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai announced that mandatory checks will be in effect from August 10 through August 20, 2026. Officials there have encouraged travelers to account for these extra procedures when planning their arrival times.
In Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport confirmed that additional mandatory security checks are being conducted throughout its facilities. The airport has instructed passengers to keep their travel documents, including boarding passes and identification, readily accessible to ensure smoother processing through security checkpoints.
Airlines are also preparing for potential delays. Following earlier advisories from Air India and SpiceJet, the low-cost carrier IndiGo issued a warning on Wednesday regarding longer processing times at various airport checkpoints. The airline specifically advised customers to factor in extra time for traffic, parking, check-in queues, and secondary ladder point checks.
IndiGo further recommended that travelers follow baggage guidelines to expedite security screening and advised passengers to remain updated by checking their flight status and the latest travel information regularly. These collective measures are intended to maintain safety standards while managing the increased operational demands during the upcoming national holiday period.
