Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has surprised fans with a significant change to his appearance, trading his iconic long, flowing locks for a military-style buzz cut. The 26-year-old Norway international, whose hair was a key element of his recognizable Viking-inspired image, debuted the look just before the team’s Premier League opener against AFC Bournemouth.
Reflecting on the change via his YouTube channel, the forward noted that it was finally time to move on from his previous style. He explained that he had originally considered the haircut following Norway’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals, but his busy schedule prevented him from doing so until now. As the new season begins, he decided it was the perfect moment for a fresh start.
The decision to cut his hair contrasts with advice he previously received from Swedish football legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic. During a July interview with James Corden on Fox Sports, Haaland recalled that Ibrahimovic had warned him against the move, telling him, “Never cut your hair because the strength is in the hair.”
Beyond his recent grooming change, the striker has been active in his personal life, including celebrating his birthday on a yacht with his girlfriend and making an appearance at Gianluigi Donnarumma’s wedding. Meanwhile, in other sporting developments, Max Verstappen has committed to staying with Red Bull until the end of 2030, and George Russell recently secured a victory at the Austrian Grand Prix after holding off the reigning champion. The report also notes that the dramatic transformation marks a major change for the 26-year-old Norway star.
