Israeli forces have killed at least 19 Palestinians in Gaza, even as United States President Donald Trump unveiled a plan he characterized as a “monumental step” toward regional security and peace. The latest surge in violence marks one of the highest daily death tolls in recent weeks, according to local health authorities.
Among the casualties reported on Sunday were three members of the Abu Taif family—Abdullah, 33, his pregnant wife Abeer Anan, 29, and their five-year-old son, Azzam—who were killed in an air raid on the Al-Sousi Tower in western Gaza City. In al-Qarara, northwest of Khan Younis, an attack on an apartment claimed the lives of Mahmoud Al-Hams, 38, his wife Fatima, 37, and their young daughter, while three others were wounded at Nasser Hospital.
Further casualties were reported near Deir el-Balah, where Kamu Abu Muailiq, 68, and his wife, Huda, 59, were killed in their home. Two brothers were also killed in the same area while riding a motorbike. Additional strikes resulted in deaths in the Jabalia refugee camp, a tent in al-Mawasi, and the Remal neighbourhood, where a drone attack targeted a shelter for displaced people. Four more individuals were killed in a vehicle strike in Gaza City.
The intensity of the military campaign has drawn sharp criticism, particularly following a Saturday strike on medicine warehouses at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. Munir al-Bursh, director-general of the Gaza Health Ministry, stated that the destruction of these supplies “turns medicine and illness itself into a tool of war.” The ministry noted that two facilities were destroyed and two others sustained severe damage.

Reporting from a bomb site, Moath al-Kahlout noted that a strike occurred just 15 minutes after an evacuation order, devastating areas where displaced civilians were sheltering. The ongoing violence complicates the implementation of a 20-point peace plan announced by the US and the Board of Peace. While the board claims Hamas has accepted a roadmap for a ceasefire, Israel has not officially endorsed the proposal. Since the previous ceasefire attempt in October 2025, health authorities report that at least 1,222 Palestinians have been killed and 4,053 injured.
Academic and Israeli affairs expert Mohanad Mustafa suggested that Israel maintains a policy of non-commitment toward such agreements. He argued that Israel often interprets clauses to suit its own objectives, frequently violating terms by claiming a different understanding than other parties involved. Mustafa noted that US pressure remains the primary factor capable of influencing Israeli policy.
Israeli officials have openly challenged the roadmap, which links Hamas’s disarmament to a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces. Doron Spielman, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that Israel would not withdraw its troops until Hamas has fully surrendered its weapons, citing fears that the group intends to rebuild its military capabilities.
Sources familiar with the discussions indicated that Israel is seeking guarantees to maintain military operations within Gaza. Other Israeli objections involve the role of Qatar and Turkiye in verifying compliance and concerns regarding the final disposition of weapons collected from Hamas.
Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen reinforced this stance, telling Army Radio that no agreement exists that requires Israel to pause its attacks during negotiations. Cohen expressed deep skepticism regarding Hamas’s willingness to disarm and suggested that Israel should assume full control of the territory if the current diplomatic process fails.
Hamas has accused Israel of escalating its offensive to intentionally obstruct the understandings reached with Washington and international mediators. The group has called on the guarantors of the ceasefire to exert pressure on Israel to halt its military operations and comply with the established terms.
Nickolay Mladenov, the lead envoy for the Board of Peace, stated that mediators are working “around the clock” to de-escalate tensions. However, for many Palestinians, the combination of ongoing strikes and humanitarian aid restrictions has rendered the current truce an illusion, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.

All have been largely ignored by Israel, which has been accused of deliberately sabotaging them.
