Priyanka Chopra has officially announced her latest Hollywood project, joining Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe in the upcoming sci-fi thriller titled Bluefly. The actress shared the news with her followers on Instagram, accompanying the announcement with a brief caption: “On to the next.”
The film is directed by Nimród Antal, with a screenplay penned by a collaborative team including David Frigerio, known for Beast, alongside William Eubank of Underwater fame and Carlyle Eubank, who worked on Muzzle. The production features a notable ensemble cast, with Russell Crowe serving as a primary lead. Crowe is globally recognized for his iconic, Oscar-winning portrayal of Maximus in Ridley Scott’s 2000 epic Gladiator, which secured five Academy Awards, including the prestigious Best Picture.
According to reports from Deadline, the narrative follows a UN translator struggling with a personal loss who is recruited for a covert mission in the Congo. The objective is to recover a crashed aircraft that officially does not exist. As the team navigates upriver through dangerous territory controlled by local militias, the mission escalates in peril, revealing that the recovery team may not have been intended to return with the aircraft at all.
Bluefly is backed by a production team including Michael Jefferson of Polite Society, David Frigerio from Broken Open Pictures, Deborah Glover of G2 Dispatch, and Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier representing Highland Film Group, alongside Vanessa Yao Guo. Speaking to Deadline, producer Delphine Perrier described the film as “heart-pounding entertainment,” highlighting Antal’s directorial vision and the strength of the cast as key factors for international market appeal.
The announcement drew immediate support from Chopra’s inner circle. Her husband, Nick Jonas, and fellow actor Huma Qureshi both responded to the social media post with fire emojis. Fans also chimed in with enthusiasm, with one user noting, “That’s a casting worth watching,” while another remarked, “She is crushing it.”
Beyond this project, Chopra is preparing for her return to Indian cinema after an eight-year hiatus. She is set to star in SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film, Varanasi, which also features Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Bluefly is currently in active production, with a global release scheduled for April 2027.
