The outcome of the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel now depends largely on how Israel responds to Saturday night’s attack.
Many countries in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world are calling for restraint in this situation.
There are also many countries that deeply dislike the Iranian government. But now they also want Israel not to respond to this attack again. On the other hand, Iran’s attitude is more like this, ‘Account settled – means it has been paid.
It is better to end the matter here. But yes, if you strike back against us again, in that case, we will launch a much stronger attack, which you will not be able to resist – explains Frank Gardner, explaining the mentality of Iran.
Gardner believes that Israel’s “war cabinet” will fold its hands and not respond to this direct attack by Iran – the likelihood is very slim indeed. So what is the road ahead of Israel now? First, they may heed their neighbors in the region and tread a path of ‘strategic patience’. Second, Israel could retaliate with long-range missiles of the type Iran has launched, targeting precisely the Iranian missile bases from which Saturday night’s attack was launched.
A third option would be for Israel to go a step further in trying to escalate the war and launch a much stronger counterattack than what Iran did. But since the outcome of the Iran-Israel conflict is not dependent on any one side, the whole world has to keep a watchful eye on the situation for now.
