2023 was the world’s hottest year on record. However, as the climate pattern El Nino returns again, 2024 is going to be even hotter than last year, scientists said.
This information has been reported in an article in a study based on the forecasts of various weather monitoring stations.
Scientists say 2024 is going to be even hotter than 2023 because mankind is still releasing large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. In this regard, meteorologist Samantha Burgess said in a report titled European Center for Medium Range Weather Forecast of the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, “We know that in 2024, there will be a severe heat wave.” But I cannot predict where and when this heat wave will flow.
According to the published article, the report of various weather monitoring stations this month says that the average temperature of 2023 was 1.34 degrees Celsius to 1.54 degrees Celsius higher than the pre-industrial period i.e. 1850-1900.
“What we found out is, in a word, surprising,” said Sarah Kapnick, chief scientist at the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Washington, DC.
According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service, every day last year was at least 1 degree Celsius warmer on average than in the pre-industrial era. Scientists fear that the average daily temperature by 2024 could exceed 1 degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
The country’s Meteorological Department, based in Exeter, UK, has predicted that in 2024, the world’s average temperature will exceed the target of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
British meteorologists said from an analysis in 2023 that the average temperature of the earth’s surface in 2023 was 1.46 degrees Celsius higher than in the pre-industrial era.
In this situation, if the current year’s temperature is 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than the pre-industrial era, then the current year will naturally be hotter than the last year.
In this regard, British meteorologist Nick Dunstone said, “This is the first time we have made such a forecast.” At this time, he warned, “We think we have already violated the Paris climate agreement.”
