At least 14 people were killed in a bomb blast at an independent candidate’s election office on the eve of Pakistan’s national elections. At least 24 others were injured.
This incident happened in southwest Pakistan on Wednesday.
Provincial government spokesman Jan Achakzai said the injured were being taken to a nearby hospital. Police said the condition of some people is critical.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, a day before parliamentary elections in Pakistan.
Hundreds of thousands of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in the country, particularly in Balochistan, following recent militant attacks.
Prior to this, a bomb blast occurred in front of the Election Commission (ECP) in Karachi, Pakistan at 9 pm local time last Friday. However, there were no casualties. Preliminary investigation revealed that it was a time bomb. The bomb was placed in a shopping bag near the boundary wall of the Election Commission located in the Red Zone area of Karachi.
The 16th Parliament election will be held in Pakistan on February 8. However, the former Prime Minister of the country Imran Khan is unable to contest this election due to the ban of the court and the Election Commission. Candidates of his political party Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaaf have alleged that they are facing various obstacles while campaigning.
