At least 25 people have been killed and eight injured in a landslide triggered by heavy snowfall in eastern Afghanistan’s Nuristan province.
A spokesperson of the Ministry of Disaster Management of Afghanistan confirmed this information and said that the death toll may increase.
Earlier it was reported that at least six people were killed in the avalanche. Besides, many others are buried under the snow.
A provincial official said that the avalanche occurred on Monday after heavy snowfall in different parts of the country.
“Snowfall continues. Rescue operations are underway. The death toll may rise,” said Jamiullah Hashimi, provincial information and culture officer.
