President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a message of condolences to King Haakon VIII of Norway regarding the death of King Harald V. Similar messages were also dispatched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court.
Royal Succession and Passing
The royal house confirmed that King Harald has died at the age of 89, marking the ascension of his son, Haakon, as the new king of Norway. The royal palace stated on its website: “King Harald passed away peacefully at Oslo University Hospital on Friday, 28th August, 0635 (local time, 0435 GMT).” Harald, who was Europe’s oldest living monarch, had been admitted to the hospital on Aug. 17.
