A family outing at Canary Beach in the Hanoville area of Agami, western Alexandria, ended in tragedy after a 27-year-old woman died following an intervention in a dispute involving her 15-year-old brother. The confrontation reportedly began as an argument between the teenager and a 17-year-old beach worker regarding seating arrangements near the water.
Witnesses stated that the woman attempted to de-escalate the situation between the two. During the ensuing physical altercation, it is alleged that the beach worker pulled the woman’s hair and pushed her in the chest. She reportedly fell face-first and was struck on the head with the wooden pole of a beach umbrella.
The victim was transported to a private hospital for emergency treatment but succumbed to her injuries. Her remains were moved to the morgue, and local prosecutors have since opened a formal investigation into the circumstances of her death.
Alexandria prosecutors have ordered the 17-year-old suspect to be held for four days pending further investigation, with legal proceedings following standard protocols for minors. Authorities have also mandated a medical examination of the suspect at a government hospital and requested an expedited final forensic report.
Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the beach area and interviewing witnesses to establish a clear sequence of events and determine legal responsibility. The Alexandria Governorate confirmed that a suspect is in custody and that legal action is underway.
In response to the incident, the Alexandria Governorate has initiated procedures to terminate its contract with the beach operator, citing provisions related to the management of public facilities. Governor Ahmed Khaled Hassan Saeed has ordered a city-wide increase in oversight for all public beaches.
New safety measures will require beach operators to submit verified lists of employees to authorities. Staff members will now be subject to mandatory criminal background checks and medical screenings before being permitted to work. Furthermore, officials have been instructed to conduct more frequent, unannounced inspections to ensure compliance with these regulations.
The local government has emphasized that any operators found to be in violation of these updated standards will face immediate legal and contractual consequences. The incident has drawn significant attention to the management of public spaces in the region as authorities seek to prevent future confrontations.
