The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has officially launched a new initiative to install smart, real-time information screens across the emirate’s public transport network. This project is designed to modernize the passenger experience by providing precise, up-to-the-minute data on bus movements and arrival schedules, ultimately making public transit more accessible and efficient for commuters.
According to Mohammed Obaid Al Suwaidi, a transport systems analyst at the SRTA, the primary goal of these displays is to offer reliable arrival times, showing passengers exactly how many minutes remain until their bus reaches the stop. By providing this information, the authority aims to help travelers better plan their journeys and significantly reduce the time spent waiting at stations. Beyond simple arrival countdowns, the screens will also broadcast service alerts and important updates to ensure passengers remain well-informed throughout their transit experience.
A key feature of this infrastructure is the use of solar power, which aligns with the SRTA’s broader strategy to integrate digital innovation with eco-friendly technology. These units are being strategically placed in front of existing air-conditioned bus stops and major stations, ensuring that critical transit information is readily available to commuters exactly where they need it most. This deployment underscores the authority’s commitment to adopting sustainable, high-quality solutions that meet the evolving needs of the public.
This rollout is part of a wider, ongoing effort by the SRTA to accelerate digital transformation and improve the overall quality of public transport services in Sharjah. By leveraging modern technology to provide clearer, more accessible information, the authority seeks to streamline daily mobility and foster a more convenient, efficient, and sustainable transportation landscape for all residents and visitors in the emirate.
