The death toll from Typhoon Yagi continues to rise in Myanmar. So far the death toll in the country has exceeded 74 people. 350 people died due to super typhoon Yagi. Of which 254 people died in Vietnam.
Apart from Myanmar and Vietnam, this typhoon also hit Laos and Thailand. Global New Light of Myanmar reported that 74 people have been killed and 89 others are missing due to floods in Myanmar by Friday (September 14) evening.
After the overthrow of the democratic government by a military coup in 2021, civil war broke out in the country and the plight of the people increased. In this situation, 65 thousand houses and five dams have been destroyed due to floods.
On Friday, the ruling military junta announced that 235,000 people had been displaced and 33 had died.
Floods have inundated many farmlands in central Myanmar. Besides, phone and internet services have been stopped in many areas due to the destruction of roads and bridges.
The head of Myanmar’s junta has asked for foreign assistance to deal with the flood situation. This was reported by the country’s state-owned media on Saturday.
