36 people have lost their lives in landslides caused by heavy rains in three provinces of Pakistan.
36 people died from Thursday night to Sunday (March 3) local time in the three provinces of Gilgit-Baltistan, Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. More than 50 people were injured.
The provincial disaster management authority said heavy rainfall occurred in Swat valley, Khyber district and other places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan. 30 people died in it. Most of them are women and children.
Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said five people died in the southwestern province of Balochistan. Moreover, 700 houses have been damaged.
Casualties were also reported in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, the National Disaster Management Authority said.
It should be noted that earlier in 2022 Pakistan suffered a lot of damage due to rains and floods. More than 1,739 people lost their lives. About 8 million people have been displaced.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Balochistan from March 5 to 7. All domestic flights to Islamabad, Gilgit and Skardu have been canceled due to inclement weather.
Besides, the winter vacation of schools in Skardu, Shigar, Kharmong and Ghanche districts has been extended till March 10.
