The final, which began on Sunday, was interrupted by heavy rain with Pegula leading 6-4, 1-2. When play resumed the following day, Eala demonstrated a significant shift in momentum. Despite trailing 4-3 in the second set, she regained control of the match and proceeded to win nine consecutive games to close out the victory.
Eala’s performance in the final set was particularly dominant, as she conceded only eight points to the top-seeded Pegula. While the world No. 3 was aiming to secure another title in Washington, she was unable to counter Eala’s late-match surge. This breakthrough win has propelled Eala to a career-high ranking of 24.
