After the election on February 8, the election of the leader of the National Assembly i.e. the Prime Minister is going to be held. In this, PTI-backed independent candidates joined the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) to contest the elections.
PML-N candidate Shahbaz Sharif is said to be supported by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Easteqam-e-Pakistan Party and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). As a result, the path to become the Prime Minister again is very easy for him. On the other hand, Omar Ayub does not have enough seats to become the prime minister. But the question arises about the sharing of reserved seats. This issue has not yet been resolved.
PTI leader Omar Ayub is contesting against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Shahbaz Sharif for the post of prime minister. Two parties submitted nomination papers for the post of Prime Minister on Saturday. On this day, the nomination papers of the two were accepted from the secretariat of the National Parliament. As a result, polling for the post of Prime Minister will be held on Sunday at 11 am. Elected members of the National Assembly will determine the new Prime Minister through a secret ballot.
According to the country’s constitution, a candidate must get 169 votes out of 336 members of parliament to become prime minister. If there are more than two candidates for the post of Prime Minister and any candidate fails to get a majority (169 votes); But the vote will be taken again. Those who get the most votes in the first round will compete in the next round. Whoever gets 51 percent of the votes will be elected the new Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The National Assembly of Pakistan has a total of 336 seats. Out of this 70 seats are reserved. 60 for women and 10 for minorities. However, voting for the post of Prime Minister is being held today without electing the members of the reserved seats.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has announced that the presidential election will be held on March 9. Five people have submitted their nominations for the post so far. Nomination can be withdrawn till March 5. But many are convinced that Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Zardari is not the president.
