Singh was reportedly in the process of making a delivery when the incident took place. He was transported to a local hospital following the shooting but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
While the exact motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, local authorities are exploring several possibilities. Although initial reports suggested a potential robbery, police sources have indicated that investigators are also examining whether the incident may have stemmed from a road-rage encounter. No public confirmation regarding the motive has been issued by law enforcement at this stage.
Singh’s family has requested support to facilitate the repatriation of his remains to India and has called for a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible are held accountable. In a separate incident on August 20, a 17-year-old boy named Ahmir Jordan was fatally shot inside a business on New Lots Avenue in East New York. Responding officers discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to the head following a 911 call. Police are currently searching for two masked suspects, described as men dressed in black and wearing blue surgical masks, who were observed fleeing the scene.
Despite these recent tragedies, the New York Police Department (NYPD) reported on August 11 that overall shooting incidents and the number of victims have reached historic lows during the first seven months of 2026. Tisch noted that the department has successfully seized 3,259 illegal firearms across the city since the start of the year, including 915 in the borough of Brooklyn alone.
