Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in further casualties, with health authorities confirming at least one new death on Saturday and the recovery of another body from debris. According to the Qatar News Agency, citing medical sources, Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian east of Deir el-Balah in central Gaza. By Sunday, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported that hospitals had received the remains of two individuals killed in recent strikes, including one person pulled from the rubble.
Violence continued across the territory throughout the weekend. In Khan Younis, an Israeli tank opened fire on tents housing displaced civilians, leaving several people wounded, including a woman in critical condition. Further south in Rafah, a young girl sustained serious injuries from army fire in the al-Mawasi coastal region. Additional artillery shelling was reported east of Khan Younis, while separate incidents in the al-Mahatta area of Gaza City’s Tuffah neighbourhood resulted in more injuries.
The Ministry of Health states that the total death toll since October 2023 has reached 73,386, with 174,250 people wounded. Officials noted that these figures remain incomplete, as many victims are still trapped under collapsed structures, inaccessible to ambulance and civil defence teams. Since a ceasefire was established in October, the ministry has documented 1,258 fatalities, 4,139 injuries, and the recovery of 807 bodies from destroyed buildings.
Amid the ongoing conflict, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formally rejected a 15-point peace plan proposed by United States President Donald Trump. During a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces “will not carry out any withdrawal until Hamas is genuinely disarmed.”
This rejection aligns with a recent stance taken by the US-led Board of Peace, which previously asserted that any Israeli withdrawal is contingent upon the complete disarmament of Hamas. These conflicting positions have left the terms of the ceasefire and the timeline for a potential Israeli exit from the Gaza Strip unresolved, even as the humanitarian situation deteriorates and casualties continue to mount.
