Four people were killed in a shooting at Apalachee High School in the US state of Georgia. At least 9 people were injured in this incident.
The injured have been admitted to various hospitals. The suspected gunman has been detained. He is only 14 years old.
The incident happened on Wednesday (September 4) morning local time.
The state Bureau of Investigation confirmed 13 casualties in a social media post. It is said that two teachers and two students are among the dead. The reason for the attack is not known.
Besides, the concerned authorities said that the suspected gunman has been detained. However, his identity has not been disclosed. It is only said that the suspect is 14 years old.
Local Sheriff Judd Smith called the attack an “unspeakable atrocity”.
In a press conference, he said, within minutes of the incident, law enforcement arrived at the scene. The gunman surrendered. He gave up, fell to the ground and officers took him into custody.
The school is located 45 miles or about 72 kilometers northeast of Atlanta, the capital of the state of Georgia.
Attorney General Marrick Garland said the government is gathering information about the incident. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals.
