Two Russian ballistic missiles hit an educational institution and hospital in the central Ukrainian city of Poltava.
At least 51 people were deth and more than 200 were injured, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The attack appears to be the deadliest by Russian forces since the war began in 2022. But Russia did not immediately say anything about the attack.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said a building at the Institute of Communication was partially destroyed. People were found under the rubble. Many have been saved,”
“All necessary measures have been taken in the rescue operation,” Zelenskiy said. He also ordered a full and speedy investigation into the attack.
Poltava is located close to the Russian border, about 350 km southeast of the capital, Kiev. The city is located on major highways and railways between Kyiv and Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city.
Zelensky promised that Russia would pay compensation for the attack.
