Four people, including three police officers, were shot dead while arresting a suspect on a warrant for possession of firearms in the US state of Kentucky, North Carolina.
At least five people were shot. The attack took place in the city of Charlotte on Monday evening local time.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Chief Johnny Jennings said several law enforcement officers went to the home to arrest a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
As soon as they entered the house, a man started shooting at them. The security forces also fired back. Then a team of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) went there and took the two persons into their custody.
“Today is a very sad day for the city of Charlotte and law enforcement,” Jennings said. Today we lost some heroes who were working to keep us all safe.’
Three security forces officers were killed in the gun attack. They are members of the US Marshals Task Force. This task force was formed with the officials of various organizations.
Four members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were also injured in the shooting. One of them is in critical condition. The local police said that the body of a suspected attacker was recovered after the incident.
