Yemen’s Houthi rebels have fired two missiles at a cargo ship bound for Iran.
No one was injured in the attack but the ship suffered minor damage.
This is the first time the Houthis have attacked an Iranian-bound ship after launching attacks against commercial ships in the Red Sea.
US Central Command said, “Houthi fighters, supported by Iran, fired two missiles from Yemen’s Houthi-controlled area towards Bab al-Mandeb”.
It also said that these two missiles were aimed at the cargo ship MV Star Iris. The Marshall Islands-flagged and Greek-owned vessel was transporting corn from Brazil.
CENTCOM officials said, the destination of MV Star Iris was Iran’s Imam Khomeini port.
Yemen-based Houthis have been regularly attacking ships sailing in the Red Sea since last November. Their targets are mainly commercial vessels belonging to the United States, Israel or the United Kingdom.
