The 60-year-old Hindu temple in Bur Dubai will shift its services to a new location in Jebel Ali, starting Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
Notices are posted at all entrances to the Shiva Temple in Bur Dubai that the temple has been shifted to Jebel Ali. The notice read: “Notice to all our devotees: Effective Wednesday, January 3, 2024, this temple will be shifted to our new Hindu temple Jebel Ali.”
The temple in Bur Dubai was built in the late 1950s and has been a place of worship for Hindus living in the UAE ever since.
When an attempt was made to contact the temple authorities regarding the announcement, a member of the committee said that they are in touch with the relevant authorities and will provide more details as soon as they get them.
Punit Mehta, who has been visiting the temple since childhood, said he would miss visiting the Bur Dubai temple. “It’s been 20 years since I visited the Bur Dubai temple and the sight of this temple is etched in my memory,” said Mehta.
Narendra, another devotee and a resident of Al Qusais, was overcome with sadness after reading the notice. “I come here often and spend time with flower sellers, idol sellers and many others, along with many other pujas. And they have all become a part of my life,” said Narendra.
