The military of the two countries directly targeted the Houthis in response to recent attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on commercial ships in the Red Sea following Israel’s invasion of Gaza. There were reports of attacks on the Houthi Red Sea port of Hodeidah in the capital Sana’a, Dhamar and Houthi strongholds in the northwest.
