The 2026–2027 academic year officially commenced on August 31 across the United Arab Emirates, following the national academic calendar. To mark the occasion, UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued an audio message extending his congratulations to the nation’s students, teaching staff, administrators, and parents.
Addressing the youth directly, the President emphasized their vital role in the country’s trajectory, stating, “You are, my sons and daughters, the future of the nation.” He urged students to maintain a commitment to reading and lifelong learning while remaining deeply rooted in their national identity.
A significant portion of the President’s message focused on the rapid evolution of the global landscape. He encouraged students to proactively engage with artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, highlighting that these tools present new opportunities that must be utilized positively. Digital proficiency, he noted, should be developed alongside academic growth and a strong sense of patriotism.
Beyond the students, Sheikh Mohamed addressed the collaborative responsibility shared by families and educational institutions. He called upon parents, teachers, and educators to operate “as one team” to foster a generation that is not only creative and well-informed but also deeply committed to the progress of the UAE.
The start of this academic term follows a period of significant preparation within the education sector, which included the training of over 24,000 educators to support the new school year. The President concluded his address by expressing his pride in the student body and wishing them success in their upcoming academic endeavors.
The broader educational landscape in the UAE continues to emphasize student development, supported by recent initiatives such as the national education charter and various leadership efforts to honor those shaping the country’s future.
