HSBC has officially launched its upgraded Global Money Account in the United Arab Emirates, marking the first time this integrated financial solution has been rolled out across the bank’s global network. The new offering provides customers with a single, multi-currency account, a unified International Bank Account Number (IBAN), and a linked debit card designed to accommodate the needs of residents who live, work, and manage wealth across international borders.
The UAE was specifically selected to lead this global rollout due to its status as one of the world’s most internationally connected markets, where a significant portion of the population frequently transacts in multiple currencies. HSBC plans to introduce this service to other international markets over the next 12 to 24 months.
The account functions as an ‘international-by-default’ service, allowing users to hold, spend, transfer, and receive funds in more than 20 currencies without incurring HSBC transaction fees. By utilizing a single IBAN, customers can receive international payments in these currencies fee-free, eliminating the need to manage multiple accounts or perform manual activation steps.
“This represents a significant step forward for our customers in the UAE,” said Mohamed Al Marzooqi, Chief Executive of HSBC UAE. He noted that the launch reflects the bank’s confidence in the nation’s long-term growth and builds upon 80 years of local experience, alongside ongoing investments in state-of-the-art wealth centers.
Lavanya Chari, Head of Wealth and Premier Solutions at HSBC, emphasized the strategic importance of the region, stating, “The UAE is one of the world’s most internationally connected wealth centres, a place where people live, work and invest across borders.” She added that the solution is intended to simplify cross-border financial management, making international banking feel more seamless for clients.
The account is integrated with a Visa debit card, providing secure access to funds across Visa’s extensive global network. Fadi Moukaddem, Senior Vice-President and Group Country Manager for the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar at Visa, remarked on the collaboration, noting that the partnership aims to deliver secure and convenient payment experiences for internationally minded consumers who are increasingly transacting across different jurisdictions.
The Premier Global Money Account is structured around HSBC’s core pillars of wealth, health, travel, and internationalism. By consolidating these features into a single setup that is ready immediately upon onboarding, the bank aims to provide a more efficient experience for its globally mobile customer base.
