Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden. The meeting thanked Biden for his historic visit to Ukraine and praised him for his message of peace amid the Ukraine-Russia war. Besides, the US has also reportedly supported India’s permanent membership in the UN Security Council.

Improving India-US relations
The Indian Prime Minister met the US President in Wilmington, North Carolina. This meeting of the Indian Prime Minister is expected to further improve India’s relations with the US.
Recalling Modi’s previous visit to the US last year and the US President’s visit to India for the G-20 Summit, Modi said the visits have brought India-US partnership to greater dynamism and depth.

Biden told the Indian prime minister that the US supports efforts to reform global organizations to “reflect India’s important voice”. Meanwhile, the United States also supported India’s permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council.
Semiconductors from space
The White House said the two leaders discussed important technology sectors including aerospace, semiconductors and advanced telecommunications during the meeting. The two leaders expressed joy at the success of the Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET) initiative in deepening and expanding their strategic cooperation.
Both leaders committed to enhance cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum, biotechnology and clean energy. They also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation with like-minded partners.
It also supported new mechanisms for deeper cyberspace cooperation through the Bilateral Cyber Security Dialogue.
The White House says the two leaders appreciate joint efforts to facilitate resilient, secure and sustainable semiconductor supply chains.
The meeting discussed creation of a watershed for setting up a new semiconductor fabrication plant focusing on advanced sensing, communication and power electronics for national security, next-generation telecommunications and green energy applications.
Discussion on defense
India is buying 31 MQ-9B Sky Guardian and Sea Guardian drones from the US. Both the leaders discussed the details of this drone deal. India is buying these drones to increase the surveillance apparatus of the armed forces along the border. Especially along the border with China.
Modi said the talks with Biden ahead of the Quad meeting were very fruitful. The two leaders discussed regional and global issues in the bilateral meeting.
