The Immigration Department of Malaysia has detained 1700 immigrants including Bangladeshis for violating immigration laws.
On Sunday (June 23), they were detained for checking the documents of the immigrants by raiding the residential area of Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad Flats, Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad, Port Klang, Port Klang, Selangor. However, the country’s immigration did not say exactly how many of them are Bangladeshis.
It is reported that they were arrested from Jalan Sultan Abdus Samad 38 Bandar Sultan Sulaiman residential area in a coordinated operation.
Operation director Khairul Aminus Kamruddin said, our intelligence forces have been conducting it in this residential area for three months. Citizens of Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, Indonesia are among those detained in the operation.
He also said that we get various complaints about foreign nationals in this residential area through social media. We conduct these operations based on complaints. We have found many of them guilty of lack of necessary documents, visas, overstays in the initial operation.
Khairul Aminus said 298 people from GIM, Central Brigade General Operation Force (GOF), Selangor National Registration Department (JPN), Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) and KDN participated in this joint operation.
He clarified that foreign nationals whose documentation process for legalization is still ongoing have also been detained. And we are not able to give the number of those involved in other offenses besides the Immigration Act 1959/63.
According to Malaysian official media, most of the foreign nationals were playing football in the residential area during the operation around 5 pm local time on Sunday. Many people were shopping for daily necessities for the night market. Others were spending the weekend.
At such a time some of them tried to hide under the car after realizing the presence of immigration. However, they were not saved in the end. The operation team cordoned off the surrounding area before launching the operation.
