About 34,000 Palestinians have been killed so far in the operation of the Israeli forces after the attack by Hamas on October 7. In addition, countless people have taken refuge in refugee camps after being injured and homeless. Such a situation led to a famine-like catastrophe in Gaza in the past month.
Due to acute food shortages, ordinary helpless Palestinians have flocked to the camps of various relief agencies, starving. The entire world was shaken by such a humanitarian disaster. They began pressing Israel and Hamas for an anti-war agreement.
In such a situation, the ceasefire talks have collapsed several times, but this time a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is believed to be imminent. The Gaza-based Palestinian resistance movement Hamas is likely to respond positively to Israel’s latest ceasefire proposal.
However, even in such a situation, the Israeli attack does not stop the casualty of Palestinians. At least 22 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes overnight in Rafah and Gaza City. This includes women and children.
US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed an agreement on the release of prisoners held in Gaza on Sunday night. At this time, he reiterated the ‘iron-clad’ US support for Israel’s security.
Hamas has yet to formally inform them of their views. However, a senior official of the group said on Sunday that they have “no significant disagreement” over the latest proposal made by Israel and Egypt on a military ceasefire in Gaza.
The Hamas official said, ‘If there is no new Israeli obstacle, it can be said that the atmosphere is positive. Hamas’ observation of the proposal did not show any major disagreement.’ The Hamas official declined to be identified.
The official said, a delegation of Hamas led by the movement’s senior leader Khalil al-Haya will give Hamas’s response to the ceasefire in a meeting with Egyptian and Qatari mediators on Monday (April 29) in Cairo.
Egypt also invited an Israeli delegation to visit Cairo. Qatar-owned Al-Arabi Al-Jadid outlet reported that they have been invited to provide necessary clarifications and strengthen the process.
Along with Egypt, Qatar and the US are trying to broker a ceasefire in Gaza.
According to a report, the latest proposal calls for a ceasefire in several phases. The next steps will be to discuss the cessation of hostilities and the release of more prisoners.
Hamas has from the beginning insisted on a permanent ceasefire and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Netanyahu has been rejecting these claims.
The current proposal calls for the release of about 20 Israeli prisoners within a three-week ceasefire. These are women, elderly people and soldiers. In exchange for them, about 500 Palestinian prisoners will be released. In addition, 300,000 people will be allowed to return to northern Gaza. The Wall Street Journal reported this information.
Meanwhile, an Egyptian source told Maariv that a 10-week ceasefire will come into effect after a three-week ceasefire.
At this time, Israel and Hamas are expected to reach an agreement on a long-term ceasefire. And through this, Israeli forces will be withdrawn from Gaza. However, Israeli forces can stop and check Palestinian crossings in the north.
Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that the United States is the only country that can prevent Israel from attacking the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Where more than ten lakh people have taken shelter.
He said any attack would force Palestinians to flee Gaza. Israel has been announcing that it will attack Rafah for some time.
On the other hand, nine members of the family of a man named Abu Taha were killed in an attack by the Israeli forces in the Palestinian town of Rafah. At least 22 people were killed in overnight Israeli strikes in Rafah and Gaza City, the Palestinian News Agency reported. This includes women and children.
The owner of the house that Israeli forces attacked is a perfume seller. He is not a member of any political or armed party. Before realizing anything, the Israeli forces suddenly attacked the house.
It should be noted that on October 7, the Palestinian independence organization Hamas launched a sudden attack by entering the border of Israel. After that, Israel launched a counter-offensive in Gaza. Israeli forces have been killing innocent Palestinians for more than 6 months in the name of operation.
At least 34,454 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, according to the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry. Most of them are women and children. Besides, another 77 thousand 575 people were injured.
