32 media groups from 13 European countries filed a lawsuit against the popular search engine Google. The media has sought $2.3 billion in damages, alleging that Google’s ad technology is hurting them.
The countries are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain and Sweden.
Jaredin Partners & Stakes, a lawyer for the plaintiffs in the case, said the companies that sued Google were harmed by the loss of competition in the advertising world and by Google’s business misconduct.
These media companies could have made more money if Google hadn’t abused its dominant position. Most importantly, the additional revenue they would have received could have been used to strengthen Europe’s media world.
According to Google, the case is speculative as it is opportunistic. Google engages constructively with publishers in Europe and develops working relationships with them.
