Illinois State Judge Traci Porter has ruled that former US President Donald Trump is involved in rebellion. He also banned Trump from the state’s primary ballot.
However, he stayed the verdict as an appeal was pending.
This is not the first time, but two other US states, Colorado and Maine, have previously removed Trump from their primary ballots for violating the 14th Amendment’s ‘sedition’ clause.
However, the final result in this matter will probably come from the decision of the US Supreme Court. And the Illinois primary election will be held on March 19.
In that ruling, Cook County Judge Tracy Porter said Trump’s role in the Capitol Hill riots on January 6, 2021, made him ineligible for re-election from Illinois.
The judge cited the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution and said that if an officer is involved in ‘rebellion’, he will be disqualified from all military and government duties.
