The inaugural session of Pakistan’s newly elected National Assembly was marred by commotion and protests on Thursday.
PTI-backed members of Parliament protested after being allowed to speak on points of order in the session. At this time, the speaker asked them to calm down and sit in their respective seats.
Earlier in the morning, Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf administered the oath to the members of Parliament at the beginning of the session.
PTI-SIC lawmakers seek permission to speak on points of order after taking oath.
However, the speaker rejected this demand and said that first the new members of parliament must be signed by the registrar. There is no opportunity to speak on the point of order before that.
Meanwhile, PTI-backed members of parliament gathered near the Speaker’s seat and protested. They joined the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
