Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called for nationwide protests on Saturday, alleging vote fraud in the recently concluded elections in Pakistan.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gahar Ali Khan announced this program on Thursday.
Talking to reporters in Rawalpindi, PTI leader Gahar Ali Khan alleged vote rigging. At this time, he called on other parties including Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) who have been protesting against the allegations of election rigging.
PTI Chairman said, PTI will record the peaceful demonstration and protest next Saturday afternoon. He urged the public to participate in the protest.
He said, this election is very important and we will not allow our mandate to be stolen. In response to a question from journalists, Gahar Khan denied the information about the talks of forming a coalition government with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
PTI-backed independent candidates won the highest number of seats in the National Assembly in the elections held on February 8. But as the registration of the party is cancelled, the independent candidates are not able to form the government.
That is why the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which won the second highest seat, is trying to form an alliance with other political parties, including the PPP, to form a coalition government at the centre. However, no party has reached an agreement on government formation so far.
Independent candidates supported by PTI won 92 seats in the National Assembly. Apart from this, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s political party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won 79 seats and Bilawal Zardari Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) won 53 seats. There has been widespread political deadlock in the country as no party has secured the required majority to form the government.
