Several parties, including Nawaz Sharif-led Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), have announced the formation of a coalition government in Pakistan.
Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother Shahbaz Sharif is the prime minister of the new government. He has already been nominated as the Prime Minister.
On Tuesday (February 13) night, Nawaz Sharif announced the nomination of younger brother Shahbaz as the prime ministerial candidate.
It is known that the name of Nawaz Sharif as the Prime Ministerial candidate from PML-N has been discussed for a long time but he has surprised everyone and nominated Shahbaz. At the same time, he announced the party’s senior vice president and daughter Maryam Nawaz as the chief ministerial candidate of the Punjab Provincial Council.
The parties held a joint press conference after their meeting on Tuesday (February 13) night. On this day, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Shahbaz Sharif announced the formation of a new coalition government. It was the alliance of these parties that overthrew the government led by Imran Khan.
As no single party got a single majority after the election, after a meeting between PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto at the house of caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on February 11, they agreed to form a coalition government at the Center and Punjab. However, Bilawal Bhutto was made the Prime Minister of the new government.
Then on Monday (February 12) and Tuesday (February 13) the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Committee met with the final decision. In a press conference on Tuesday, Bilawal said that Bilawal Bhutto said that since the PPP does not have a mandate to form the central government, he is not a prime ministerial candidate.
However, the PPP chief said that he would help PML-N in the election of the Prime Minister and said that the PPP will continue according to its manifesto. We will not be part of the government. Even the central government will not have any minister from our party.
He said, our policy decision is to bring the country out of the crisis. We need to support and strengthen Pakistan.
A few hours after his announcement, leaders of PML-N, PPP, MQM-P and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) held a meeting at night. At the end of that meeting, the formation of the coalition government was announced.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s party Tehreek-e-Insaf said that they will form the government in the center and Punjab by forming an alliance with PMWM.
