French World Cup winning forward Olivier Giroud has announced his retirement from international football. The French forward wants to end his international career by winning the Euro 2024 title.
The 2018 world champion football star has also clarified why he will retire after the Euros. Because, this 37-year-old French footballer has not won the Euro title so far in his career. This striker wants to touch the trophy of the best in Europe.
“I miss the Euro title,” Giroud said. If we win this, I will retire from the game. Even if I don’t win in the end, I will retire. I am enjoying every moment. I told some people, if I could win the 2022 World Cup, I would retire. But I am looking forward to win more titles for the country. I have hopes and ambitions. If it’s good, it might be possible.’
Giroud also predicted which team France will play against in the group stage of Euro 2024. He said that his team France will play in the D-group in this tournament. France will face Austria, the Netherlands and the play-off winner (either Poland, Wales, Finland or Estonia) in the group stage of the round-robin competition.
Giroud believes that compared to the last 2021 season, France will play a relatively easy opponent in the group stage of the next season. France’s opponents in the previous tournament were Germany, Hungary and Portugal.
Giroud made his debut for the France team against the USA in 2011. Played two World Cup final matches. Giroud played in the 2018 World Cup winning France XI. He also played against Argentina in the next World Cup held in Qatar. But this time, Messi’s Argentina won the title by defeating France.
Giroud has scored 56 goals for the national team so far. This French striker is currently playing for the Italian club AC Milan.
