The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued notices to Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff over the Vimal Elaichi campaign. The regulator alleges this campaign acts as surrogate advertising for Vimal Pan Masala, a product banned in the state.
The notices were sent to Devgn at his Juhu residence and Khan at Mannat in Bandra, while Shroff was served via Tiger Shroff Productions LLP. The FDA clarified that these notices do not constitute a finding of wrongdoing, but require the actors to submit explanations.
This action aligns with a wider FDA crackdown. Officials have been conducting inspections and seizures targeting food safety concerns like adulterated milk, restaurant food, unhealthy products near schools, and the illegal manufacture and sale of banned gutka and tobacco-containing pan masala.
The controversy emerges at a notable time for Khan, as fans mark the milestone where “KANK turns 20: Shah Rukh Khan’s unforgivable, best role” is remembered, alongside his position at the top of celebrity brand lists.
