Danish Prime Minister Mite Frederiksen has been publicly attacked. Police have arrested one person in this incident.
The concerned people said that the incident took place in a square in the country’s capital, Copenhagen, on Friday (June 7) evening. The arrested man walked towards Frederiksen and hit him. After this incident, the Prime Minister was shifted to another place.
Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Union (EU), called this incident a despicable act.
The police are investigating why the attack on Prime Minister Frederiksen took place. Not much else has been revealed.
The attack on Frederiksen came two days after the country’s European Union elections.
Before the attack, Frederiksen participated in an election campaign with his party’s Social Democrat candidate Christel Schaldemoz in the EU elections.
Frederiksen’s party is the largest party in the country’s current coalition government. So far this party has been leading the elections. However, the party’s public support has been on the decline for the past few months.
Incidentally, the country’s Prime Minister Bertrand Fico was publicly shot on May 15 in Handlova, Slovakia. Although he survived his severe injuries, he had to undergo several surgeries.
