Iran’s President Ibrahim Raisi said that Israel will give a full response to the attack on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, the capital of Syria.
And Hossein Akbari, Iran’s ambassador to Syria, said that Tehran’s response will be decisive.
At least 11 people, including a top commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and his deputy, were killed in Monday’s attack. Immediately after this incident, thousands of people protested on the streets of Tehran.
Protesters called on the country’s ruling government to take action against Israel. President Raiso was outraged by the attack.
Israel has been attacking Iranian military installations in Syria for a long time. However, this is the first time that the country attacked the Iranian embassy. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian called the attack a “violation of all international obligations and agreements”.
He also said Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu has lost his mental balance as a result of repeated failures in his military campaign against Hamas in Gaza.
In a separate statement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said Iran has the right to respond. And Tehran will make the final decision about the type of response and the punishment for the attack. Iran’s mission to the UN said the attack was a clear violation of the UN Charter, international law and the principle of protecting diplomatic and consular premises.
The Iranian mission to the United Nations called on the organization’s Security Council to condemn the attack. Syria, one of Iran’s allies, said the Israeli attack had killed innocent people. Immediately after the attack, the Iranian Interior Minister and the Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad visited the scene.
