A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing artificial intelligence (AI) data while working for Google and supplying it to China.
Linwei Ding, alias Leon Ding, was arrested on Wednesday in four related cases in the state of California.
According to the lawsuit, Google hired the man in 2019 for a project related to artificial intelligence. From May 2022, he started submitting Google information to his personal Google account.
The complaint also said that he worked for a few months in China at a company called Beijing Rongshu Lianzhi Technology, and started a company himself.
According to the lawsuit, Lyon did not inform Google about working in these two companies.
Not only that, he returned to the United States in 2023 and resigned. After being suspicious, he searched Google and found that he had stolen at least 500 confidential documents from Google.
It was claimed in the court that by this action, Lyon put national security at risk.
If Google wins the case, it could face at least 10 years in prison and a fine of at least two and a half million US dollars per case.
