As every year, Muslims will be able to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque during the first week of Ramadan, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced on Tuesday.
But the security situation will be reviewed every week and decisions will be taken accordingly, it is also said.
Thousands of Muslims pray at Al-Aqsa every year during the month of Ramadan. Israel has been attacking Gaza since October last year, resulting in a stalemate between the Palestinians and the Israelis. Even an Israeli minister claimed that it would be dangerous to allow Palestinians living in the West Bank to enter Jerusalem.
However, the United States has voted in favor of allowing Muslims to pray at Al-Aqsa. U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement that escalating tensions in the West Bank is detrimental to Israel’s own security.
Meanwhile, since the beginning of Ramadan, Hamas has called on Muslims to protect the sanctity of this month.
Israel launched an indiscriminate attack on Gaza after the Palestinian independence organization Hamas attacked Israel on October 7 last year. More than 30,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the start of the campaign, which has been ongoing for more than four months.
