According to Article 41(5) of the Constitution of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif’s PML-N and Bilwal Bhutto Zardari’s PPP are considering holding presidential elections by March 9 before the upcoming Senate elections.
According to Article 41(5) of the country’s constitution, elections must be held within 30 days of the vacancy of the presidency. But if the presidential election cannot be held within that period due to the dissolution of the National Assembly, then the presidential election must be held within 30 days of the general election.
Sources also said that the PPP, PML-N and their partners want the presidential election to be held on March 8 before the end of the current Senate term. Then Shahbaz-Bilwal alliance wants to hold Senate elections.
Earlier, PML-N and PPP announced on Tuesday that they had agreed to make Asif Ali Zardari the President and Shahbaz Sharif the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
PPP Senator Farooq H Naik said that according to Article 41 of the Constitution, the presidential election should be held within 30 days of the general election. As such, the presidential election will be held before March 9.
