Two intruders tried to enter the UAE in small iron boxes installed under the rear trunk of two SUVs. Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zone Authority (SPCFZA) thwarted the infiltration bid. Authorities did not disclose the customs terminal from which they were detained.
X-ray scanners revealed the hiding places of the illegals (look at the left edge of the image below):
A video shared by authorities shows officers smashing the rear bumpers of vehicles, where illegals are hidden in 2-foot boxes. (Scroll down for video). They can be found squeezed tightly into small spaces, with no room to move around:
The intruders had no documents with them. The vehicle drivers and illegals have been referred to the concerned legal authorities for further action.
Mohammad Ibrahim Al Raisi, Director of Terminals and Border Points Affairs at SPCFZA, said infiltration is among the authorities’ top concerns. “The remarkable economic and developmental progress of the UAE contributes to this threat, making the country a target for a segment,” he said.
Sharjah Customs employs “a sophisticated system capable of thwarting all forms of smuggling attempts across the port”. The system “combats all individuals and criminal networks that try to compromise the security of the nation and its citizens”.
