143 countries, including Bangladesh, voted for the creation of an independent Palestinian state. The proposal was raised in New York on Friday (May 10).
Nine countries, including the United States and Israel, voted against. And 25 countries abstained from voting.
Meanwhile, through this vote of the General Assembly, Palestine will not get full membership in the United Nations. However, Palestine will enjoy some additional benefits. For example, they will get seats with other members in the session room of the Parishad from September this year. However, no proposal will be allowed to vote.
However, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, said the UN was welcoming a terrorist state. This vote will not only give rights to the state, but will also give privileges and rights to the future “terrorist state” of Hamas.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said, this vote has proved that the world stands with the rights and freedom of the Palestinian people and against the occupation of Israel.
