Feed products from a poultry farm in Sharjah will be more expensive as they will be free of any growth-promoting hormones. The farm will form the third phase of a plan that will see cattle-breeding and poultry projects near the huge wheat farm in Mleha.
“Other farms produce chickens in 27 days because growth accelerators are added to the chickens, causing them to bloat. The growing process of our chickens in this farm takes 70 days as they are fed naturally from green areas,” said Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The three farms that will form the project will complement each other, the ruler said. The idea is simple: hay from the wheat farm will feed the cows; And cow dung will fertilize the soil of the wheat farm.
“Their products are all organic – free of external additives,” the Sharjah ruler said during a radio program.
Sheikh Dr. Sultan visited the wheat farm, where the crop is being prepared for harvesting. About 37 lines covering 1,900 hectares will produce the first fully organic wheat in the Middle East. Its flour contains a maximum of 18 percent protein.
The hay produced here can feed more than a thousand cows. The cow farm will produce “high quality organic milk without any additives”. Cows bred here will be “a true breed”.
He also said that the poultry farm will produce chicken without chemicals or other artificial methods.
