Israel’s barbaric attacks on Gaza continue. Occupying Israel continues to attack in violation of the rules of war. Protesting these attacks, the Arab countries offered a ceasefire there. However, this proposal was directly rejected by the United States, one of the main allies of Israel. They said that Hamas will be stronger if there is a ceasefire.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken held a meeting with the foreign ministers of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates in Amman, the capital of Jordan, on Saturday (November 4). Blinken held a press conference with them after the meeting. There, when the foreign ministers of Jordan and Egypt proposed a cease-fire in Gaza, he rejected it.
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said, “We do not think that Israel is attacking Gaza in self-defense.” Their actions cannot be justified under any pretext. Their actions will not bring security to Israel. It will not bring peace to the region. For this, the Israeli attack must stop.
However, US Secretary of State Blinken rejected the Arab ceasefire proposal and said that the ceasefire would benefit Hamas. They will regroup and attack Israel again.
Although not talking about a permanent ceasefire, the US administration is in favor of a temporary ceasefire between the two sides to provide relief aid to Gaza and release prisoners held by Hamas. However, even such a move by the United States has been dismissed by the Netanyahu government.
On October 7, the Palestinian independence organization Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel from Gaza. Israel continues to bomb Gaza in response to Hamas attacks. The Israeli army has started a large-scale ground operation there in the midst of continuous bombardment.
More than 9,500 people have been killed in Gaza by Israeli attacks. Two-thirds of the dead were women and children. In addition, another 22,000 Palestinians were injured.
