The 28-year-old official recently returned to the White House following a brief leave for the birth of her second child in May.
Leavitt previously served as a press aide during Trump’s first term and has been a prominent advocate for his “Make America Great Again” movement. In a social media post announcing her departure, the president described her as one of his “most trusted aides.”
Trump stated that Leavitt is leaving to spend more time with her young children and family, a decision he said he fully respects. He noted that she will transition into a role as one of his top outside advisors and remain an influential voice within the Republican Party as they work toward the midterm elections.
The announcement comes amid other administration developments, including a US court order halting construction on a Trump ballroom, the removal of a teleprompter operator over betting claims, reports of the president weighing harder strikes on Iran, and his recent revival of third-term discussions at a gala.
