Tariq Habash, special assistant for planning, evaluation and policy development at the US Department of Education, resigned on Wednesday (January 3) local time. He submitted his resignation letter strongly criticizing US President Joe Biden’s controversial involvement in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
It mentions that people are being killed indiscriminately in this Assam war. His resignation underscored the anti-war and anti-Biden sentiment in the administration.
The same day, 17 unnamed Biden campaign workers warned in a letter that the Democratic president could lose voters’ confidence in the upcoming election.
In a letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, Tariq Habash said: ‘This administration’s blind support for atrocities against innocent Palestinians is something I cannot accept in silence. What leading human rights experts call a genocidal campaign by the Israeli government.’
Habash, a Palestinian-American and a student loan expert and consultant. He received the appointment at the beginning of the Biden administration.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden campaigners called on Biden to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
