Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues its reign at the top of the box office, helping propel the summer season to a significant $4.2 billion milestone in ticket sales. The Sony Pictures blockbuster brought in an additional $70 million across the United States and Canada this weekend, pushing its domestic total to $785.8 million. This performance secures its position as the fourth-highest-grossing domestic release in history.
Globally, the film has now surpassed the $2 billion mark, bolstered by $118.7 million in international earnings. It is only the eighth movie to reach this threshold without adjusting for inflation and stands as the second-fastest to do so. While Avengers: Endgame holds the record for reaching the $2 billion milestone in 11 days, Brand New Day achieved the feat in approximately 18 days.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey maintained its second-place standing during its fifth weekend, adding $23.2 million to its North American total, which has now reached $504.7 million. With an additional $98 million from international markets—including a $36.6 million debut in China—the film has crossed $1.2 billion in global revenue.
The End of Oak Street outperformed expectations in its debut, securing $21 million from 3,446 locations in North America. Directed by David Robert Mitchell and starring Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway, the film depicts suburban parents in 1982 whose neighborhood is transported to prehistoric times. Despite an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie received a B CinemaScore from audiences. It added $26 million from international markets, bringing its global opening to $47 million against an $80 million production budget.
Paramount Pictures’ Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie opened in fourth place with $20.5 million from 3,545 theaters. The PG-rated film, the third theatrical entry in the franchise since 2021, earned an A CinemaScore and has accumulated $69 million globally to date.
The documentary Katseye: Wild Hearts rounded out the top five, earning $4 million from 724 screens. Other notable entries in the top 10 included Six: The Musical Live, which debuted in sixth place with $3 million, and The Brink of War, which brought in $2.7 million. The Tamil-language romance Vishwanath & Sons finished in 10th place with $1.6 million.
Overall, the summer box office season concluded with $4.2 billion in sales, a figure roughly 5.7% higher than the pre-pandemic summer of 2019. Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends at Rentrak, noted that while the season fell about $130 million short of the 2013 record set by Iron Man 3 and Despicable Me 2, it remains one of the top five summers of all time.
The total yearly box office currently stands at just under $6.9 billion. As the industry looks forward, questions remain regarding whether any future release will reach the $3 billion global mark, even as Brand New Day continues to eye the $1 billion worldwide threshold in specific markets. The report also notes that with an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but audience reactions were more mixed, earning a B CinemaScore, the movie has received positive reviews from critics. The report also notes that this list factors in the estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S, with final domestic figures being released Monday. The report also notes that studio threatens action, the Odyssey leaked online.
